We have a variety of current opportunities available for clients, working across all areas of Silver Birch. Each of the teams is led by a Senior Support worker, who works alongside team members to ensure they achieve individual goals within an agreed time-scale. Each of the client activities has been designed to ensure our clients receive the best support possible to; develop a strong work ethic, learn transferable work skills, participate in ‘on the job’ training as well as gaining a strong sense of achievement.
If you, or someone you know has a learning disability and would be interested in attending Silver Birch, then you should contact our client manager Shirley in the first instance at –firstname.lastname@example.org

Site Maintenance Team
Clients working in the Site Maintenance Team have the opportunity to work across all 11 acres of the Silver Birch site. The team works on a variety of smaller projects, which currently include the development of a sensory garden, a Japanese garden as well as ongoing maintenance of our large community garden. Team members also have the chance to learn basic garden construction skills, develop a strong team ethic, improve general health and well-being and are able to see small and larger scale projects develop through to completion.
The clients working in the office have the opportunity to learn about general office duties, including; Computers and ITC, answering calls, copying, filing, mail sorting and petty cash. This supports individuals to develop their literacy and numeracy, organisational and communication skills, as well as promoting self-confidence and positive team work.
Clients working in the Production Team are based in our factory building and work in a large team to produce mushroom compost, bark and multi-purpose compost which is then sold on to the general public. The production team supports individuals to develop transferable work focussed skills, and also promotes a strong work ethic. Each client in the factory can see how products are made from start to finish, ensuring they each have a sense of achievement in knowing they contributed to the finished product.
Clients working in the catering team carry out a variety of domestic tasks in our purpose-built kitchen/canteen. Hot meals are prepared daily for up to 35 people per day, as well as two tea-breaks per day where catering clients would help prepare for these busy times. Working in the kitchen can develop co-ordination & memory skills and activities also encourage working to a routine and being able to follow recipes in order.*
This team involves members preparing sold products to go out to customers for delivery. Each of the team is responsible for loading up the delivery vehicle, ensuring correct products are ready and in stock, dealing with customers and also carrying out basic navigation to find customer addresses. Working in deliveries helps improve confidence, general fitness and the ability to remember key tasks essential to the role.
Vegetable Plot Team
Over the past two years, we developed an unused area of Silver Birch land into a fully functioning vegetable plot. Our long-term plans for this area are to produce fresh produce that we can then sell on to the public and to local organisations. Team members in the veg plot can learn a variety of skills including; working in a team, communication, literacy and numeracy and gain an understanding of the vegetable cultivation process from sowing to harvesting final produce.
